Hi Motivnation,

need your help with a ball choice.
I am looking for a ball for a straighter angle on broken down shoots.

I am bowling league in a center where after 4 games I need something straighter then what my arsenal currently has.
After starting with my Raptor I currently end with the Backdraft in game 4 to 7 (yes 7 games without new oil during lunch break).

But the Backdraft with 60x50x5 at the OOB finish is still too much ball sometimes. I have to throw it left to right all over the lane in order to be to the right of the headpin.
I don't want to change surface as I love the reaction in another house I also bowl.

So for a straighter shot (say lay-down/arrows/breakpoint 15/13/10) what ball would be suitable?
I was thinking of either Recon or the new Ascent line?
I read one post for recommending a weak layout on the Ascent for really dry lanes. What would that layout be?

Thanks for your help

I play very straight with my Ascent Solid and it hits wonderfully. Perfect 3rd game/open bowl ball. Another guy who was on my league team played really straight with his Recon Silver.

Definitely the Recon Silver. I can use that ball to go either straight or play it abit inside whenever my Backdraft is going through the head pin too much. The Ascent Pearl is a another good choice to have for the straight/angular shot.

I would say A weak layout on a solid ascent and add a coat of polish to the box surface or taking it to 4000. The ascent is going to be predictable and consistent. My only worry about a recon is if it sees oil mine wiggles or rings tens.

First of all thanks for the input so far.

Tens is what I don't want to have under all circumstances as that is my worst spare shot!
I was thinking about Ascent Solid more than about Ascent Pearl because of it's predictability.
But what (in dual angle) do you consider weak layout.

I talked to a Brunswick guy here today.
He recommended (of course) a ball from their line-up that I threw half a year ago (versa-max). I was resonable happy then but didn't want to buy it neither then nor today.
He recommended a layout as well (55x70x4,5 and a balance hole).

Would you consider this high sum of angles weak?
From what I understand about dual angle this will skid long and transition slow so it will go long and have an arching motion.

There are some variables that must be considered such as the oil volume your center uses, pattern, surface, etc. Based on the info provided (given your ball speed & rev rate) an Ascent solid drilled medium/weak should be a good ball. Depending on what you see on the backends, an Ascent Pearl drilled medium-strong is another option. The Versa-Max is a very good ball but not one I would recommend for what you are trying to accomplish. I would switch the numbers around on the layout suggestion & make it 70 x 4.5 x 55 w/P1.5 if you want to tame it down a bit or P3 to give it alittle more "pop" on the b/e. Throw it for alittle while prior to putting a hole in it.
As for 10-pins, they are every right-handers nemisis. Missing them is purely psychological . . believe me I freak out on them as well. Just have to get a Sniper & practice games just throwing strictly at 10-pins. Hope this helps & good luck!
