So, the thought has occurred to me many, many times over: what is Motiv missing in their lineup? If I could marry any current cover and core combo, what would I like to see? Well, I know what I would like, and to make sure I'm not full of *youknow*, I wanted to compare notes with all of you folks, the MotivNation-- the in-the-trenches, throw-them-everyday bowlers. I think that the conditions in my area seem to be a little different than that of some of the other frequent posting players here, but I'm really interested in how YOU would build a new release.
I can only list the ball names, so here is a brief recap of Motiv's naming convention:
Core,Cover,Iteration: Core letter first, Cover name second, the number of times the core has been used; ie. SX-1 (Sigma, MotivatorX, 1st release) versus SR-2 (Sigma core, MotivatorR, 2nd time Sigma core has been used).
Available options for cores are:
Sigma Core, Thrust core, Mega-Thrust core, Recon core, Cruel core, Geardrive core, Quadfire core.
Available options for covers are:
MotivatorX (SX1, TX1, RX1)
MotivatorT (GT-1)
MotivatorR (SR2, TR2)
MotivatorZ (QZ1, QZ2, TZ3)
Formula 5 (C51 aka Cruel)

Upon reflection, leaving out any C_2 combo was not intentional, but I have the utmost faith that we're going to see a pearl type version of the Cruel anyway. That core is just too good to go one and out. I was begging a certain SW in a phone call a few months back to release such a beast, like a CZ2, and I was assured something would be in the works, just not in the near future. He hinted springtime or maybe in front of Bowl Expo possibly. From the man himself, he said their strategy is to be very clear with purpose for each release, and not to be a 'ball of the month' type company, which clearly they have demonstrated just so.
That is good for both bowlers and pro shops, although for an equipment junkie like myself, it is frustrating to have to wait. As an avid Storm collector up until this summer, I am happy to have changed, as nothing they have released in the past 10 months (including their releases this past week) would have fit anywhere in my bag. My jumping in to the Motiv end of the pool occurred partially as a protest that Storm wasn't utilizing the Shape Lock HD core any longer; the Cruel core looked somewhat similar at first blush, and intrigued me. Fast forward 4 months, and here we are with a bag for of Motiv (and a couple boxes extra of broken pins *smile*)

I would like to see a ST2 or a QT2. Love the coverstock of the GT1 & would like to see it matched up w/sigma & quadfire cores. A QR2 would be nice also. Just hoping they put out a fairly aggressive ball in late Jan./early Feb. in time for USBC Nat'ls. Wish we could talk them into getting some for of presence out their in 2011.

I agree on having an aggressive ball soon. A QR3 would be a pretty cool ball; the Quadfire core is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I just have to get the chink in my swing eradicated soon, or I might have to take a couple of weeks off.
