Two questions:
1st: My brother was able to get me some commercial degreaser they use at his job (http://www.anything4restaurants.com/pro ... 32808.html). I was wondering if this would work the same as the dish soap of if it could hurt the ball. I'm testing it right know on a crap ball I got for free.

2nd: With my Cruel that I gave a bath to that had the phasing, could the type of water have an effect on phasing? We have a water softener becauce of our well water. I noticed the ball change color when the water touched it. Could it be the water or the soap still on the ball?

I don't believe that the phasing is caused by water quality, as we have a well that is only treated for iron content, and has a large lime content, and we see the same phasing. I believe that the phasing has more to do with the change in temperature of the coverstock, especially the cooling of the cover. How else can you correlate phasing from bathing and phasing from leaving a ball in a cold car trunk?
Just my theory.

I always get phasing of my bowling balls from the cold, from being in my vehicles. So, I'd back him up on this one... the water cools the ball temp off and therefore causes the phasing. Sounds pretty good to me Mick!

Phasing is the term used to describe the color change, usually a lightening or whitening of the cover stock material, most often seen after having the ball get cold.

On some of the Cruels, the "M" and the red part of the Cruel logo would actually turn a bright pink, due to phasing. The logos in Motiv balls (trademarked as NeoMark graphics) are actually made of the same material as the rest of the cover, so they would exhibit the same phasing behavior as the rest of the cover. My SR2 logos, instead of being orange when the ball arrived off of the UPS truck, were a pale, pale orange-tinted white, but with bowling (friction), they have returned to their proper color.

Ok, I'm going to use the hair dryer from now on. When I used it on my Cruel, it immediately started to sweat. I used 2 towels and it still isn't done. I'm letting the hair dryer cool down because it was getting too hot. Time to clean this mother nice and good like.

I go to the proshop and put it in the Rejuvenator... and that's essentially an oven. Got an oven? That's what I did before the rejuvenator was around. And I do this about once a year.
