Personally not a fan of RICO drills as they often get finicky on the back without lots of friction due to the large VAL angle. You can accomplish the reaction with more standard angle measurements.

Now after watching the videos again the 45x45 looks like it will take more hand than the others and I do have a lot of hand in the ball.

Where in the line-up do you see it fitting?

Devil's advocate. I'm going to somewhat have to disagree. I have a QZ1 Red with the Rico and love it. Not saying your wrong but I've never had an issue with the backend even on the shark pattern (broken down a bit). Down side, I have a high track and the last three revs on the backend just tick the middle finger. A friend of mine Tony Johnson (centeral Regional bowler) uses a modification of the Rico and puts the Mass Bias on the PAP. It works VERY well for keeping your angles tight even with strong equipment.

Is Rico good for everyone....no. For the below average revs and a bunch of oil, I'd say no. For with the rev gifted get a cheap Motiv ball and give it a try. I did a ball a few years ago with Rico and liked the reaction, then did the QZ1 last year, 2 300s later I'd say it works for me. It comes off the pattern smooth with some power, but not a flip. To be honest I use the ball as my benchmark on almost everything. I guess the point I'm making is if your Angle sweet spot is around the total of the Ricos give it a try. Mine is 130 digrees, my Rico with my PAP is 90x5.75x45 (135 digree). Justin is right though is saying you can get the same basic reaction from different angles. Check out the videos.

NOTE: Next Rico I do will have a 10 digree less VAL to keep the track from ticking the middle finger.

The word "Rico" makes me think of Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite. Now how could I ever take the ball seriously if I drilled one up like that? I just couldn't.

It is named after Ric Hamlin of Brunswick, he came up with the trick layout out on tour for when the ball reaction needed to just rooooooooooooll.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, and it will invariably match up as it has for you Mike.

My comment is merely that for a ball to transition properly and have the maximum chance of striking, and remember it is only a chance and not a sure thing, that more often than not the RICO is at a disadvantage.

Enlarge the hole, it will push the flare off of your fingers.

What does it use, MiniDV?

I'm all digital. This one I moved up to Adobe Premier to edit it. I have to do the RX1S vid soon.
