when ordering a ball how do you determine what pin position and top weight to order

3" pin out, 3oz top is generally the most versatile for different layouts. If you have a specific layout in mind sometimes certain specs will lend themselves better.
For example, on symmetrical balls for strong hole placements longer pins usually will accommodate larger holes.
