I’m frequently asked what layouts my staffers like on their favorite bowling balls. As a result, I’ve compiled a list of my national tour staffers’ favorite pieces of equipment. Each of the guys emailed me the specs that are listed along with the layouts they prefer on some favorite rocks.
Dick Allen (3 5/8 x 5/8, Right Handed) • Sigma Hybrid o 35 x 4 ½ x 60 (P4 hole) o Box • Sigma Tour o 45 x 5 x 35 • Raptor o 30 x 4 x 60 (P2 hole) • Raptor Attack o 30 x 4 x 60 (P2 hole) o 45 x 5 ½ x 25 • Backdraft o 40 x 5 x 35 (P1 hole)
Scott Norton (5 ¾ x ¾, Left Handed, Speed Dominant, lots of axis rotation) • Sigma Tour o 70 x 5 ½ x 35 o 45 x 5 x 65 (P3 hole) • Raptor o 70 x 5 ½ x 35 o 45 x 5 x 65 (P3 hole) • Thrash o 55 x 4 ½ x 70 (P2 hole)
Lee Vanderhoef (5 ½ x ½ , Right Handed) • Sigma Tour o 40 x 5 ½ x 65 (P2 Hole) o 70 x 5 ½ x 30 • Raptor o 55 x 5 x 35 • Backdraft o 40 x 5 ½ x 65 (P2 Hole
Jake Peters (5 ½ x ½, Right Handed, very little axis rotation) • Sigma Tour o 70 x 5 ½ x 35 o Box • Raptor o 55 x 5 ½ x 65 o 2000 Grit • Backdraft o 55 x 4 ½ x 45 o Box
Brett Spangler (5 ½ x ½ , 350 rpm, 20 degrees tilt, 35 degrees rotation, 17 mph, Left Handed) • Sigma Tour o 55 x 5 x 60 (p2 hole) o 1000 Grit • Sigma Hybrid o 45 x 4 x 40 (P1 hole) o 2000 Grit • Raptor and Raptor Attack o 70 x 5 ½ x 35 o 4000 Grit • Thrash o 60 x 5 ½ x 65 (P2 hole) o 1000 Grit • Backdraft o 70 x 4 x 50 o 1000 Grit

No problem, Mr. Mick! I look forward to swinging by tomorrow. I have a new tester to try. Apparently, it's amazing according to Dick.

He could have listed the Val angle first instead of the drill angle.....just sayin' If Brett Spangler didn't know the chronological and correct order of dual angle layouts, I'm sure he would not be in the position he holds as National Tour Representative and Staff Manager for Motiv. So I take his credibility(and knowledge in person as he's a genius and a half along with being so down to Earth and easy to talk to) for granted and purposeful in regards to his national tour guy's favorite layouts. I'm positive he wouldn't have listed the VAL angle first(even though I wish it was true on some of these layouts because I'm so end over end ) to ensure the correct information was getting out to the people who requested this information. Just my .02

Question for either Brett or Justin....
Seeing that it says Jake Peters has very little axis rotation, and watching his televised appearance, it also apperas that he has very minimal axis tilt as well, im wondering why he is utilizing layouts with longish pin to pap distances on his asymetrical balls? Shouldnt he need all the help he can get in retaining the very little amount of tilt and rotation that he imparts on the ball. Here is a copy of his layouts that brett so nicely provided for us
Jake Peters (5 ½ x ½, Right Handed, very little axis rotation) • Sigma Tour o 70 x 5 ½ x 35 o Box • Raptor o 55 x 5 ½ x 65 o 2000 Grit • Backdraft o 55 x 4 ½ x 45 o Box
I fully understand why he likes his symetrical layouts bc longer pin distances are needed to retain tilt and rotation on a symetrical cored ball.... But im utterly confused as to why he would go with a 5 1/2" pin on his raptor which is a very strong asymetrical cored ball to boot?...
I would think that with his heavy rolling end over end release, he would do much better with pins between 2 1/4"-3" max.... Am i missing something here? My only guess would be that his raptor layout helps control the pocket better rather than giving up the 3 pin.....
Just looking to better myself as an avid ball driller myself.
Thanks guys.
