I'm sure one of you drilling gurus can answer this quick...
I've been told that my PAP is 5 1/8", up 1 1/8". What does the 1 1/8" signify?
Thanks in advance

To use those numbers, take a ball you already have drilled. Looking at the grip, draw a line from the middle of the bridge (the part of the ball between your finger holes) all the way to thru the middle of your thumb. This line is your center of grip line. Figuring the distance in inches between the cut of the thumbhole and the cut (edge of the actual hole) of the fingers (cut to cut span), you then take half of that measurement, and mark a spot on your center of grip line. This spot marks the grip center; draw a line perpendicular to your center of grip line, from the grip center mark, and draw it to the right (for a right hander, left for a left hander). This is the line where you measure your first PAP number, the 5 1/8" distance. Make a mark at the 5 1/8 spot. Your second number is 1 and 1/8 inches up; drawing a line from that 5 1/8" line perpendicularly, thru the mark you made to mark the 5 1/8" spot, up (toward the finger half, not the thumb half) 1 1/8 is your positive axis point. I hope that wasn't too confusing; it is so much easier to show someone in person rather than to describe it in words.

Ok, I understand your explanation. I was just wondering if that 1 1/8" was some sort of buffer or part of a tuning method. Would it have something to do with my tilt or ball flare? (I don't seem to have a lot of flair an any ball I own)

1 1/8" up means just that, your PAP is 1 1/8" up the VAL. Your layouts will look a bit different. This is why you need to know and use your PAP to lay out balls.
I have attached a picture that helps explain it, the 2 balls are laid out the same, but have different PAP locations. The layout is 50x50@4.5". The Cruel is your axis point at 5 1/8" over, up 1 1/8". The other ball is 5" straight over. You can see that they are quite different visually, but in fact have the same layout on them.
This also generally indicates that your track is not parallel with your fingers and thumb, but closer to thumb than fingers. Not a bad thing at all, but can sometimes make for reactions not intended if the ball is visually laid out.
