I am working on wrapping my head around the dual angle drilling and have read many articles? My question is can or how can I take a ball I already have punched out and figure out what angles it was drilled at? Can you work backwards? I have access to a prosect? what else would I need? Thanks

Yes, absolutely. You need a pro-sect, a pencil and your PAP Coordinates.

Draw the vertical line thru your grip, bisecting the thumb and the bridge. Determine the center of your grip, make a tick.

Draw a perpendicular line thru the tick; extend it 6 1/2 inches or so.

Here is where your axis coordinates come into play.

Mark your PAP using the distances (coordinates) from your center of grip mark.

IMPORTANT: You have to know if the ball you are drawing on is a Symmetrical or Asymmetrical core ball. USUALLY SPEAKING, asymmetrical balls have an additional mark on them denoting the PSA (preferred spin axis, or mass bias). This is most times located 6 3/4" from the pin thru the factory indicated CG mark (but not always, as some company's balls have CGs that fall outside of that line).

Draw a line from the PSA to the Pin. If you are using a symmetrical core ball, assume the PSA of the drilled ball is the center of the thumb hole.

Next, draw a line from the pin to the PAP coordinate.

Now, remembering the line we drew thru the center mark of your grip, perpendicular to the center of grip line, we will be drawing a vertical perpendicular line to this line that travels thru the PAP. This would be your vertical axis line (VAL).

Now, you have all you need drawn out to determine your dual angle information:
* the angle made between the pea-to-pin line and the pin to PAP line is your "drilling angle", the first angle measurement given in Dual Angle speak.
* the "distance between the pin and your marked PAP" is your next measurement in the Dual Angle notation
* the "VAL angle" is the angle created between the pin to PAP line and the VAL.
