hi everyone. just got my first ball - a 14lb motiv venom shock. i always used a straight house ball. I don't know my pap, axis tilt, and/or and other geometry. is it critical i try to determine this or just get the ball drilled to a standard layout? i wouldn't say i'm very consistent. I'll bowl anywhere from 110 to 180. i would be bowling mostly on light-medium oiled wood lanes. if anything i would prefer a little more angular snap at the end vs. more bowing hook. thanks for any input.

If you don't know these measurements, then just make sure your pro shop watches you bowl to best determine these criteria.

Since you are just starting out, a "general" drilling would be fine (based on how you bowl) and spend time getting the basics figured out.

Thanks for the response. I actually got the ball drilled yesterday and what a difference vs. standard house balls. The house had a jayhawk drill and jayhawk ball. I was wondering how anybody could cup a 15 or even 16 pound ball. Know that i have a custom drilled ball i can see how. I should have got the 15 pounder. Nonetheless, the custom drilling is awesome. i found a 'house ball' that was given to the house - an old ebonite ball built for hooking. We roughly found my axis point and pap and then drilled a pattern off of that. I was throwing the ball down the 3 or 4 board. The ball had a ton of length and would snap way down the back end. I kept going brooklyn and even further left of brooklyn. Can't wait to learn how to throw this thing.

I am glad you had some success. Good luck and I hope you have fun bowling with your new ball.
