This question is aimed at Justin (because of his shop and MOTIV knowledge), but others are welcome to chime in...

Set up info:
A couple of weeks ago I bowled on the USBC White pattern at state. Minors events was 39 feet on HPL and had a real nice look. I am guessing due to shorter patern and high friction surface. Team event was on new ProAnvillane with 41 feet, but looked like a lighter patern by the graph, I was guessing to counteract the harder, smoother surface.

My problem was I could not get ANYTHING to face up well. I started with 1:00 pin GT1 - wasn't agressive enough (all my stuff is mostly over label with pins near ring and near factory finishes). I went to a pin under TR2 (just rolled and never finished) and just kept fishing all day. If I moved right I had ring 10's or 4's. Move left bucket, 2 pin, etc.

I have decent speed (around 18), and play mostly in "power tweener" range (low to mid 300 rpm range).

Ok for the question...
Nationals has the same lane surface as team at State - Pro Anvillane. Pattern is flatter and lower volume in middle than the White pattern. I need surface early to get a carry reaction, so TR2 is the best bet, but how do i get it to face up without early roll then fade reaction I seem to get on those types of patterns (like state)? More surface doesn't seem to be the answer (ball is at 800). I have a great ball driller but he is a Storm guy and MOTIV roll characteristics are not is strongest knowledge point.

I have all the lineup (except TX1), so I can adjust to whatever ball/cover you suggest. S/D events souldn't be an issue. (I shot 602 ans 681 last year with GT1).

Just looking for practice suggestions, as I am not leaving for 6 weeks and have chance to practice on a very close copy of the Nationals pattern.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

I'll need layout measurements or pics of the balls, and your specs if possible.

No worries, the more background information the better the result :)

Ok, I finally got the pictures of my MOTIV arsenal done. All of the balls are over label. My ball speed is arounf 17.5 - 18, with a rev rate in low to mid 300's.

I am thinking of taking SR2 and changing surface to 1000 without polish for team. Being it pin up and a lower RG than TR2 (but same coverstock), I would figure it would rev up better (less roll) and have better entry angle on the fresh team condition. I am fearfull the TR2 will roll and not turn up enough to carry corners (as has been known to happen in Reno). Plus I can then change cover back to 2000 polish for the minor events. Last year my factory finish GT1 worked awesome.

Thanks for any advice you have Justin.

Jeff

ps. can't seem to get pictures to upload. I will email them to you.

I'll post an analysis later tonight, at work now and I don't have time to be thorough enough :)

Justin - when do you go to Nat'ls? Please call me after you go to discuss how things went. Since we have such similar styles I can line-up off of you. :D

Jeff - what was the layout on the GT1 you used last year @ Nat'ls? My ball speed & rev rate is similar to yours. When do you go to Reno?

Best of luck to both of you !!

Bob,

It is the one pictured above (pin at about 2:00). I had just got it from Scott a couple of weeks before I left. I also used it at the BTM and shot 790 (was high in group with 3 PBA regional guys). They were asking me "what is that?" and questions about the ball. It was funny.

I am going to Reno in May. I bowl the 14th and 15th.

Thanks,

Jeff
