Today was the first 6-game set of a tourney to select a house team (whose fees will be paid to the 2012 USBC Nationals). There will be 3 more 6-game sets between now and early December. Each set will be a different pattern...short, medium, long and the 2011 USBC Nationals pattern.

This week was the Kegel Broadway pattern and it became evident immediately that I have nothing in my arsenal for it. I didn't shoot terribly on it (except for the game I was sorta sabotaged by the group on the pair ahead of me). I shot 190, 200, 188, 198, 146, and 215...all with the SigT. I sit in 2d place.

I'm ordering a Backdraft to use on these short oil patterns but need some JustinWi magic to help me lay it out properly.

As always, thanks in advance for your wisdom and guidance.

Nice shooting!

Good to see that you are sitting in second right now, but I am definitely sure that with the Backdraft you can take first!

Overall, I was pleased with my scoring but I had to work very hard for every pin. The exception, of course, was the 146 game. The group I was following each time we switched lanes was trying to shoot deep inside and having no success. I heard them talking about trying my line since I was having some success and they all did just that in game 4...they still scored poorly because they were trying to throw their Nano 10-7. Unfortunately for me, those oil suckers ruined that line for me when I hit the pair for game 5. I luckily escaped a split in the 1st and spared but then threw splits the next 6 frames (8 count frames, all). I started moving in in the 4th but didn't find a line until the 8th (10 pin, spare). Struck out from the 9th frame for a wonderful 146.

I won't see another short oil pattern in that particular tournament. The next 3 will be a 41', a 45', then the 2011 USBC Nationals pattern. The Broadway pattern was tough pattern for me though with the equipment I have. It opened my eyes to a hole in my arsenal that the Backdraft should fill nicely.

Just need Justin to waive his magic wand and conjur me up a layout for it.

60x45@4.75" no hole to start.

We can as usual place a hole or tweak surface if need be. This one will need a bit of friction to get started, but will be your go to when things open up.

Got the Backdraft punched per your recommendation, Justin. Unfortunately, I haven't had an opportunity to throw it in league play as of yet because I've only encountered med-hvy conditions since I got the ball.

I bowl in two centers, one with HPL lanes and the other Anvilane. I visited both in the last week on the day following their heaviest league schedules (and before they oiled for the day). My Raptor and SigT were both nearly uncontrollable. The Backdraft, however, was finishing very late...I had to point it up a bit more than I want to get an entry angle that would carry.

What do you recommend?

As always, thanks for your help.

Hit it with 2k Abralon, should make it start up a couple feet earlier. If that doesn't do enough hit it with 1k.

Ok, so I'm an idiot!! Took the Backdraft in to get it hit with 2k Abralon. Pro shop owner asked why I wanted it. I explained just as I did in my previous post and he just laughed at me.

He was there the day I had described and saw me using it. He told me that when I was using the Raptor and SigT I was staying down on the shot the way I should but the balls were just too much for the conditions. He said when I pulled out the Backdraft I started standing up on the shot...essentially killing the shot. He thought i was doing it intentionally due to the dry lane conditions. Bottom line...he said wait until I had another opportunity to use it.

Last night the lanes were breaking down badly by the end of the 2d game. Pulled out the Backdraft to start game 3 and focused on staying down on the shot. I didn't have to point it up at all...it went long with a strong move to the pocket. I shot 233.

Like I said...I'm an idiot.
