Well, I guess I have a little more time to decide. Saw the Dr. today and she suggested that I skip two more weeks of bowling!! That'll mean that I miss the Viper pattern entirely. Oh well, I guess maybe it'll be healed in time for the Cheetah then. Should be a good ball for that one anyway.

I'll have to stop by the proshop and talk to him about drilling patterns. It's going to kill me to be a the alley, get a ball drilled, and not even be able to try it out!!!!

I hurt my middle finger in the ball return about 8 years ago... in the 10th frame of the 2nd game... went 195 the last game with 2 fingers. Stupid you say? I say heroic. ;)

If you middle fingure is hurt, just switch to using your pink and ring finger. This has worked for me and my friend.

Not a bad way to kill off all your revs too! I have a friend with the straightest swing you'll ever see and I remember watching him throw 960/4 one night like that when everyone else struggled to get it down the lane. Back in urethane days too!

A common thread in this thread is that the Recon is stronger than expected. I've had this issue as well. My league house has the AMF issue 10-10 PHS (Pathetic House Shot) and my RX-1 is a 3 and 2 move left off my TX-1 as a result of all that friction! Not a complaint, merely an observation.

I'm a righty who is afflicted with a 450+ rev rate and my PAP is old school, 4 1/2" x 3/4 up, speed circa 17-18 mph on the dry. (I learned to bowl with polyester in the 80's and am still working on killing the shot off everywhere I go.) I drilled the ball 4 1/2" pin to PAP, 5 5/8" derived MB to PAP, pin above bridge. No x-hole. The ball just leapt off the spot! I could get it to the pocket, but if I backed off or tugged it - trouble!

So I polished the ball to get to a better break distance-wise, then put a 13/16 P2 hole drilled deep (I stopped at 3", -7/8 oz SW) to get it to arc more off the spot. Use less cover, more core dynamics. The ball still covers the same amount of boards, but the stone 9's have almost gone away! This ball does some really mean things in the pin deck. Looking forward to punching a Cruel up in a week or so.

Now I just need to get some practice in!

So I'd recommend using a medium early drilling on the Recon RX-1, to tame it's angularity if you have plenty of DIY hook. Then I think you'll love like I'm loving mine.

Hopes this helps the high rev folks out there.

Cheers,

I just ordered my RX-1. I'm looking at pin up for carry and snap on the back end. They changed our house shot to a drier and shorter shot this season. I now start with my sr-2 up 10 to break as it dries I'll move left 2 and still carry to 10 at break. (btw i'm at 18.5-19 mph with hand.) I bowl 2 leagues back to back and on the second league I found my next move about 10 boards tossing 15 to break at 10. 280 that game then the read got hard. I'm looking to pull the Recon out at that point and move back left to my starting point and make the same adjustments to finish the night. Hope this works!

recon is still jumpy with the short patterns...with the numbers like 50x4x45... thats a heavy roll... try this 100x5x65
100 is slightly smoother breakpoint the 5 will help the flare not be so big ...itll be closer together...and the 65 will get the ball going the right way...cheeta is a short pattern ..works very well..
