Makes great cents. Trying to explain to customers why a ball dosn't hook as much is tiresome. I understand now why I haven't had "ball death" yet. I change the surface on almost all my equipment every week. Going from sport to house patterns from day to day my ball spinner gets a work out. Also the moment I see a ball wiggle on the backend I remove the oil right away.
Thank you Justin for taking to time to post this.
Mike

Unfortunately my bowling house is also one tht leaves numerous, large black belt marks all over the balls.....extremely annoying, because you can spend a long time cleaning your ball and after the first throw in warm-ups it comes back with belt marks. Anyway, I like to use Motiv cleaners (and have them), but they do not easily take the belt marks off my bowling balls. The only thing I've found that makes it a little easier is 91% isopropyl alcohol. If I use the normal 70% that most people buy I still have to scrub and scrub. I don't think the 91% will hurt the ball, but using the Power Gel cleaner I have to scrub forever to try and get the marks off.

The one thing that I have used for belt marks that seems to take them off fairly quickly is the Magic Eraser pads. They don't harm your bowling ball as the pad itself has no chemicals, but it is considered to be abrasive.
Which means that you can't use it during actual play if you are in any league or tournament. I also will say that if you use it on polished equipment, then it isn't too bad. I didn't notice that it is abrasive enough to take off the shine.
As for the PG Clean, I've never had a problem getting belt marks off with it personally. I do have my own spinner, but doing it by hand never hurt me or took that long. One thing you might want to try is PG Scuff as that will definitely help with belt marks.
I wouldn't use that on polished equipment as that will take off the shine.

I know what you all mean about "belt marks". The problem that I have noticed, is that mine are not belt marks. Rather they are the marks left from a very dirty backdrop. The reason I say this about mine is due to the fact that mine are left in an almost perfect circle around my ball. I'm told they are cleaned but do not think that it is true. It also only leaves these on my polished balls. Rx1 and Sr2. Scrubbing with normal cleaners does not remove the marks.

Either way, as you say, the normal cleaners won't take it off without an enormous amount of elbow grease applied with the cleaners. The 91% IPA takes it off much easier, and I'm fairly sure it won't harm the bowling ball. I do wish I had a spinner, but I can't justify the expense. Guy at my proshop will clean, polish, change the finish (grit)....any of those (or combined) for $1/ball for league members.

DjResol - I've spoken w/Gary a few times regarding Motiv equipment & send him info on the 2-ball packs when they come out, but he's been a tough nut to crack. He once referred to Motiv as an "off brand" company. I know it may be alittle drive for you, but have you tried Mike Austin down my Palace Lanes? He carries Motiv & likes our product line. Excellent ball driller as well. Still like to get Gary on board. If he ever has any questions about the products when you talk to him, please have him call me. Be glad to discuss it w/him.
ps: you bowling in the Regional @ Del Mar next w/e? There's another pro shop I've beem trying to get to stock Motiv, Carol Norman's place.

Sorry I missed your post untill now. I didn't have the funds for the Regional do to a job change. Yeah, Gary has been a hard sell and I have heard the off brand comment from him myself. I'm one of very few that toss motiv in that house. Gary has done a good job with what I have gotten and he has drilled all my motiv balls. No reason to run to another House just for that when He still gets me what I want and drills them up fine.
I'll have to catch up with you some time soon. Once this job takes off I'll me bowling more regionals for sure!
Res~
