Hi Justin,
Had a layout question for a potential 2nd raptor I'd be drilling. I love the raptor p7 on the heavier patterns when i want the ball to corner off the backend. The ball rolls great on the fresh and even when i chase in. I then drilled a raptor attack to use when ive chased the oil enough and i sacrifice carry with the solid. However, i just didnt see the reaction i was looking for. I like the heavy revving core so i was thinking of drilling a 2nd solid with a longer layout and some polish. I have found that drilling my motivs stronger keeping my sum around 80* total they roll tremendous and just want to know your opinion. I personally was thinking 60x5.5x30 since my solid is drilled 45x4.5x35. My attack is drilled 50x4.5x25. Seeing as my signature will not update and things in my stats have changed:
Lefty 5.5x3/8up 15-16 mph, 290-300 rpm

What didn't you see out of the Raptor Attack? What were you expecting that you didn't get?

When i bought the attack, as mentioned in above, my driller advised a 50x4.5x25 because his co-worker bought one and said that he was having trouble getting the ball to turn the corner. When he drilled it, i noticed the same, the ball struggled to turn the corner and when it did, it was rolling out. So i played with the surface and settled on 360,1000, factory finish. When the lanes are tighter the ball continues to struggle but with a decent amount of friction the ball corners well. Just expected more backend reaction out of the ball like the sigma tour i have and im getting a heavy roll. Of course the sigma is going to push and recover more so than the attack. The raptor p7 corners a lot better and i have always liked the way the ball gets into a roll and backends. Thankx for replying justin.

A small VAL angle like that will create and extremely short second transition, resulting in a very hook-stop look. Especially on an asymmetrical ball that already will transition quicker because of the asymmetry. With a 45-50* VAL angle the RA would be much more continuous and stronger on the back half of the lane.
On the second P7 use 60x40@5.5", once you see what it does we can place a hole and tweak surface to separate the reactions of the 2 if need be.

Well Justin,.
I greatly appreciate your input. I had notice in most of the staff vids that the 2nd angle stayed around 40-50*. I now understand why my attack sets up in the backend the way it does. Understanding this changes the way i play the lane conditions i bowl on and where. Also thank you for the layout info on the 2nd raptor p7. I look forward to informing you on my findings when i drill the 2nd.

60 X 5 X 35, P3 - my favorite layout. If you drill a second, don't be afraid to play with surface because @ 1500 + Power Gel Polish, the ball is a gem. 60-75* X 5-6" X 30-45*, P3 or Dual Thumb - Would be another suggestion. Bigger angle on pin to pap along with a good deal of length from pin to pap, it should push at least 3-4 feet further down the lane. P3/DT will make response to friction time greater.

Thanks skid,
Definitely looking at a bigger drill angle on the 2nd one. Double thumb would be if i was bowling on something really long and heavy. I have a hard enough time throw the one i have now, lol!
