Hello again Nation.

I'm now looking to set my dad up with a second motiv ball. He currently has a cruel le punched up via a drilling that was given via Justin. We are looking for a ball to combat burnt lanes. Our lanes at my house start out 36' short w/ light oil and are burnt out by then end of the 3rd game. We need a transitional ball for him to move to that will allow the ball to carry down and arc in. Also in his other house the lanes there can be med wet to dry as they only oil in the morning.

I was thinking that a Silver recon pin up or an ascent, but I do not know if the ascent would be to weak.

What is the feeling of the nation on this kind of situation?

thanks!

looking at the balls i see the silver is now retired. So I would like to know what ascent would be the better option for a smooth weaker arc? Or is there another option that I am missing?

To give you an idea on how these lanes burn up. I start with either my Gt1 Sr2 or Tv4 (at 500 grit). By then end of the night I have moved 15 and normally am tossing my recon Orange.

I also bowl a late league that follows this one and have to go from my normal revs 400+ or so to actually suit casing the ball to kill the over reaction at about 18-19 mph.

If you are looking for something in the ascent line, i would recommend the pearl. But MANY people i have spoken too are turned off by the pink/purple color and wont be seen throwing it..

The Venom Strike (the newest addition) to Motiv may be just right polished up. If the lanes are burnt up, this ball has more of an arc to it and you should be able to control it.

For truly burnt fried heads and lanes not carried down by poly/urethane users I'd look at Ascent Pearl. But know you probably won't get an arc looking reaction. Length and faster response to friction is what the Ascent Pearl is about factoring in bowlers stats. , lane topography and lane condition.

A retired QZ2 Pearl probably would have tendency to arc more because of the Quadfire core. Bowler will need the ability to move inside and open up the lane. Some can some can not.

I don't think a low Rg Venom Strike is the way to go even polished unless he can get deeper inside and will need a high pin up. It's designed to roll early.

Hope this helps.

Yeah the venom will not work. Im worried about a pearl as it reacts to friction, and these are burnt lanes, thus friction is early and response on the lane might be unpredictable. I am leaning toward the solid drill to go long, or drilled weak. I think the solid will be a more predictable read on the lanes and can always be hit with a polish to help it out.

i understand how you would be worried about a pearls reaction on the burnt end of the lane but if you drill a pearl ascent the right way you can get it where it is smooth downlane and doesnt make the nike symbol. Mine is drilled 55 x 5 1/4 x 45 and it is perfect for roasted lane conditions. Thats just me though.

I have a Silver Recon that works great on dryer lanes. There are still some available at on-line pro shops if you hunt around. I realize its not the "latest/greatest" but it works great, at least for me. I use it in combo with the Cruel and QZ2. The QZ2 and the Recon usually gets me through any series.

Plenty of Silver Recons out there still. Get one before they're gone. Not sure why they got rid of it. The Ascents hook much more.

Please explain. How is this so with same core and same cover in the Ascent Pearl vs. the Silver Recon with a changed color scheme? I can understand if you mean the Ascent Solid with it's solid cover and duller OOB P2000 surface.

While the Ascents do use the Recon core, they do not have the same cover as the Recon. The Recons had the MOTIVator-X cover. This is the same cover that was on the TX-1 and SX-1. The Ascents feature a solid and pearl version of the MOTIVator-Z cover. This is the same cover that was on the QZ line. The MOTIVator-Z cover is a stronger cover than the MOTIVator-X cover.
