Hi Justin..
I have a mate with a Raptor & is having trouble with it. The ball does'nt want to finish at the backend & continues to roll out & stop hooking with a very weak hit. No matter how much oil in on the lane. Or leave quite a few wash-outs. So he is looking at getting it re-drilled. Currently it is drilled at 55 x 5" x 40 He is looking at something to go long & strong once it hits friction.. With good continuation through the pins.. I thought of around 70 x 4" x 35. Maybe with a P3 if needed What would you suggest for a layout..
Specs are as follows
Bowler Information: PAP = 5 over - 1/2 up Ball Speed = 16-17mph Rev Rate = 300 - 320 Tilt = 12 * Rotation = 50 *

Has there yet been any experimentation with surface adjustment?

There certainly has. 2000 made it worse. Just past half way to a flat roll 4000 is the problem I have mentioned 2000 polish unpredictiable back end reaction. Sometimes it would squirt past break point, other times jump thru the head pin. 4000 polish goes straight past the break point 90% of the time.
He has a Sigma Tour drilled 55 x 4 1/2 x 50 that rolls perfectly for him. he just needs the Raptor for heavier volume of oil..
Thanks Pete

Sounds like a classic case of a ball that both burns tilt and transitions too quickly.
I would redrill with a 60x50@3.75". It might need a hole but wait to place it till he tries it.

Justin, Curious why you suggest such small pin distances on asymmetrical equipment? 55 x 5 x 40 should give a better down lane vs 3.75. I would think that adjusting the ball to read earlier and retain longer would be the key to such a big piece of equipment. More like a 40 x 5 x 80? I see your videos and you have such a great reaction with the smaller pins. Guess I just don't have the guts to go that small with the pin. How do you decide?

Just to interject, but remember that asymmetric cores' pin to PAP distances do something different that that of symmetrical cored balls.
A short pin to PAP distance helps to hold tilt much longer.
I had the same issue with my first P7; My Raptor was set up in my favorite 60* by 4" by 40*. And it rolled like garbage. After reading a bit on the net, I plugged and re-drilled it with 50* by 5' by 60* and she's a champ now. I just needed to make the time interval between transitions longer for my ball speed, hence the 'inversion' of the angle numbers. Note that the angle sum is still somewhat similar. Now that ball is very, very versatile.
I hope this helps.
