This ball is exactly what I needed for those flatter medium length patterns. If the Purple Tank just isn't enough and something else symmetric like the Forge Flare is too much ball, the Carbide Tank sits perfectly in between. I have mine drilled pin down and it's perfect for playing a little more on top of the friction. It gives you the traction you need but a smooth, slower, rounded response down lane. Great predictability and dependability. I've used the Carbide as a step over ball to the Forge Flare. They work great together. If you're a tournament player you NEED this ball.

Being a rev-dominant two-hander, admittedly, I struggled with the Carbide for a few games. I think my head was expecting it to be just a little bit stronger than my Blue Tank, and maybe similar in strength to my Venom Recoil or Tank Blitz.
Wow. No. I was wrong.
This is the strongest cover I've ever thrown on a ball. And I don't mean strong in the reactive sense in that it can handle oil, I mean strong in that it feels like this ball is 90% cover traction, and the Gear Core is just doing everything it can to keep this mud terrain tire spinning. It slows down so fast, it's very tempting to want to add speed to compensate, but don't.
Move in and aim the ball at the friction on purpose. It will chew through the oil and start to slow, bump the friction, and roll up to the pocket. It very distinctly goes through the 3 ball motion phases, and works fantastically as a benchmark ball if you need to go fishing for oil.
However, because this cover is so strong it really puts the onus on you to find the line that gives it exactly the right balance of oil and dry. Because the ball is so cover-dominant, you need to be accurate, as the ball makes its move very early, and a little miss up front can easily become a big miss downlane.
Be patient, give this ball time to show you what it can do, and you'll be surprised what you learn about your game.

This ball was the answer for me on tough league conditions. The house I bowl out has older lanes that tend to be skatey. They will have slick spots and grippy spots so you can see your ball skid and hook multiple times down lane before it hits the dry and flips. I hope that makes since that is the best I can describe it. This ball is super smooth and makes a pretty big controlled back end move. First out of my bag. Love this ball

This was the missing piece in my bowling bag. I cannot say enough good things about this ball. I went to a test drive and got to throw it and fell in love. The smooth motion of this ball is great.
