View Privacy PolicyHello All. I write this review now with about 2 months of ownership using primarily on house shots and a variety of surface finishes. Now before I get into my raving about how good this ball is please know I am not a staffer and I don’t normally pump equipment. I’m a little of the tribe that believes there’s no bad equipment just bad matchups. Your typical bowling enthusiasts gainly employed enough to enjoy drilling lots of equipment.
My Carbide Tank is drilled pin up 4.5” x 35deg VAL, approx. a 2.25” pin buffer for the VLS crowd. I’ve got a pretty decent rev rate 475rpms but a little on the softer side of the speed ranging from 15.7 to 16.2 comfortably at the breakpoint. Out of the box the 1000 grit finish is a lot for the heads of a house shot but the reaction is still shockingly smooth and continuous. Unfortunately at this grit the ball will create quick transition and if bowling 4-5 person league may not be useable beyond the 1st game. Even while increasing my axis rotation from inside angles I wasn’t able to consistently carry the corner, nothing unexpected from a ball of this design.
The next test set we laid out another fresh house shot but this time took the finish up to 3000CTD (creating the difference) pad to start. This allowed me to start much closer to the friction 13 to about 5-6 while still seeing the continuous hook phase with a plenty of punch to carry. I barely moved in all 3 games of practice which gave me some confidence with this surface prep for league play. I was able to stay in the Carbide for almost the entire set and it was a gem at controlling the wet/dry transition. General reminder to always adjust surface finishes as needed before giving up a ball.
The ball simply oozes control and forgiveness while still giving you the hook you want. By no means should this piece be mixed up with urethane or even condition specific niche bowling balls. The reaction is nostalgic of the 2000s era proactive days and I love it! The only downside to MCP is that Motiv never has enough of them active in the lineup at once.
My favorite Motiv release since the Sigma Tour. Don’t sleep on this one!

It took me a while to warm up to the Tank line but now I’m a big fan and this release just strengthens the line even more! This new version of the MCP is wrapped around my favorite core giving me all the confidence in the world when I need a stronger controlled shape. This ball has become my absolute “go to” for any house condition. I did end up tweaking the box surface a bit to get the length needed for the house shots. 2000/4000 and let ‘er rip! This ball can still cover boards and finish through the pin deck without typical urethane deflection. This ball is one zone stronger than the Tank Blitz and two zones stronger than the Blue Tank (all with the same layout).

Always been a fan of the Tank line, but the Carbide Tank is the one I have been waiting for! The new Microcell Polymer cover confuses others, makes them think is Urethane, but when they see the response on the lane, learns real quick it's Not Urethane! This ball revs up with so much power, burning through the oil, and finishes into a roll through the pocket literally like a cannon blast! The Gear core is Perfect in this ball! Being Symmetrical, it don't over power the hook, it keeps a smooth angle to the pocket with a nice shape. This is one ball you don't need an aggressive drill layout. I have mine Drilled pin up above the bridge, and it's perfect! I can go around the ball for the 40 board hook, or take my hand out of the ball and go straight up and in the pocket. Oil is much needed for this ball though, and No matter how much you throw this ball, you still will Not see Any Lane Shine in this ball! But you will Always try to prove that theory wrong.... but Good Luck!
This is 1 Tank, You Need in Your Bag! Better get it before it passes you by!!!

Layout on the carbide tank for me is at 55 x 3 3/8 x 15. 3/8 up. The continuation on the carbide tank is out of this world! I don’t see a lot ten pins with it this far, it’s mostly the solid 8 or 9 pin (who can complain about that). The versatility of this ball for bowlers that can adjust their speed and hand position almost make this ball unfair. You can easily speed up and take hand out to get straighter. Subsequently you can easily slow down and add some hand into the Tank Carbide and play into the oil without sacrificing carry. The Tank Carbide should be a no brainer for anyone if they are looking to fill out an arsenal.

The next MCP cover is here and its on the new Carbide Tank. The Frixion M4 Solid MCP is the strongest microcell cover Motiv has release and really helps this ball shine. The Gear core is perfect for this cover too as its a low RG & moderate diff helping control the flare and energy release on the back part of the lane creating awesome pin carry. This medium heavy oil ball is smooth and continuous on the back giving you control and power at the pins. You will want this in both your league and tournament bag!
