The Hydra™ is one of the cleanest bowling balls ever produced by Motiv. The combination of the incredibly clean and angular Hexion cover system combined with the high RG/low differential Halogen core results in easy length with impressive backend motion.  Typically, a 5500 Grit LSP finish is used for light oil balls, but a 5000 Grit LSP finish was utilized on the Hydra because the cover glides through the front of the lane so easily.  This finish enables the ball to read the lane better and improves predictability at the backend.

Bowlers competing in high friction environments and rev dominant players will gravitate to the Hydra as a perfect angular ball to add to their arsenal.  Tournament bowlers looking for a dry lane performance bowling ball need Hydra in their bag. Unlike entry level pearls, this beast can strike from the deep and provides more angles of attack.

    Surprising

    Originally used in the Tribal, I was a big fan of the Halogen core that Motiv used in this bowling ball. Based on the description offered by them, as well as the Hydra’s position on the ball guide, I expected a fairly tame reaction; a ball that got down lane easily and offered a majority of its motion down-lane.

    What I got was a little bit different than I expected in that it is MUCH stronger than I anticipated. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just a bit of a surprise. On a typical house shot, I am able to swing this ball out a little, and rely on it to consistently corner and find the pocket. The cover is strong enough to recover very well from misses outside, but weak enough to hold in the oil on misses inside. Because of that, the Hydra is VERY forgiving. The only other ball I’ve seen this much forgiveness from is the Venom Shock.

    The Hydra is a reliable, medium-light strong arcing reaction that can be counted on time and time again to corner when you need it to, and hit and carry very well. I know it’s personal preference but I really love the look of the ball as well. I love the gray pearl color and the low contrast logos. It’s a winner for sure!

    MONEY BALL

    I can't sing the praises of this ball enough. I have won more money from this ball. When people are complaining about the dry...I love it. Give me this ball all day. It is responsive off the spot for many people, including me. However, I keep mine at 4k to 5k and it gets enough length to keep the look I want.

    If I could sell you one Motiv ball...it would be this. I think it is one of the most underrated balls for a house shot hero.
