Hydra

4.9Read Reviews

The Hydra™ is one of the cleanest bowling balls ever produced by Motiv. The combination of the incredibly clean and angular Hexion cover system combined with the high RG/low differential Halogen core results in easy length with impressive backend motion.  Typically, a 5500 Grit LSP finish is used for light oil balls, but a 5000 Grit LSP finish was utilized on the Hydra because the cover glides through the front of the lane so easily.  This finish enables the ball to read the lane better and improves predictability at the backend.

Bowlers competing in high friction environments and rev dominant players will gravitate to the Hydra as a perfect angular ball to add to their arsenal.  Tournament bowlers looking for a dry lane performance bowling ball need Hydra in their bag. Unlike entry level pearls, this beast can strike from the deep and provides more angles of attack.

    New favorite ball

I went out on a limb and bought 2 motiv balls at the beginning of the season, the Hydra and the Rogue Blade. Didn't throw them much at the beginning of the season. Started throwing the Hydra about a month ago. I shot my best overall series of 839! 249 290 300. The ball hits so well, great continuation, doesn't overreact even when you jump way inside. I've now thrown 2 300s with this ball, I only had 2 before that. I'll be buying another one of these.

    What a ball!!

After purchasing the Venom Shock pearl and Venom Cobra, I needed that 1 final ball to clean up the dry end of the lanes when my Cobra was just hooking to much. After talking it over with the Motiv Staff, and telling them I want to try to get away from using urethane (no offense, but you can't always get good carry although you can get strikes), it's just not the same as resin balls and I was recommended to get the Hydra so I purchased it. Today, February 12th I finally got a chance to get it drilled up which is perfect because I am getting a chance to use it right off the bat off dry/light oil lanes. I don't know what else to say except wow. First shot I missed my target right to where I was closing in on the 1/2 board...no problem, that thing shot back to the pocket struck like a bat out of hell pardon the expression. Second shot, I missed my target 2 boards left...no problem it held steady left a stone 9 (curse that pin). Then I get the perfect pocket shot sent the pins into concession protocol. I cannot think of anything negative to say about this ball because there really isn't anything negative to say about this ball.

    Hits hard

I just ordered one of these it’s got maybe 20 games on it . I had this ball drilled to go long before the snap and it does just that. Great pin action, great mixer. I can play the lane. I can play where no one else really does. This ball is great.

If the lanes are burnt this will be your go to. The hitting power of the hydra is remarkable! Provides tons great roll on the dry. You will not have a problem getting this ball through the heads

More than your average light oil ball!

They Hydra might be a "light oil" ball but it packs a lot of performance for the dollar. The Hydra has been a life saver for me in both the fresh on a high friction condition and also the burn in match play of a tournament.

The problem with a lot of light oil balls is that they usual don't blend out wet/dry conditions well. They under-react to the oil on small misses in causing light splits, or they are too jumpy off of the friction to the right causing high hits. The Hydra is the exception for me as it reads just enough in the oil to still drive through the pins but also reads smooth enough off of the friction to provide control at a time in the tournament or league where that is very important.

Here I am talking about it providing control but it somehow also is extremely punchy through the pins and keeps the pins low causing unbelievably good carry.

If you're bowling on a high friction league and need something to give you length, control and great pin carry then there isn't a better ball on the market for it, especially not at the lower price point.
