The new Motiv Hydra is Motiv’s newest addition to the line, featuring the strongest Hexion cover to date, wrapped around the Halogen core, previously found in the Tag line. The OG Tag was one of my favorite balls, and this release helps me not miss it so much. Very similar shape, but overall I'm pretty sure this is stronger.
I’m pleasantly surprised by the shape this ball creates, even in the oil. Where the Lethal Paranoia might labor a little bit, this ball comes off the spot significantly stronger. I’m able to keep my angles straighter through the fronts on medium volume shots with a little bit of surface, and open up the lane on burnt shots with shine, so I’m seeing a ton of versatility from this ball already. I had an opportunity to throw it on a 40’ 1:1 flat pattern, and was surprised at how easy it made the lane look when I took it down to 2000. I shined it back up after a few games and it gave me an awesome shape from inside.
If you’re looking for a weaker ball that you can throw on a lot of light-medium patterns, or just something for your basic house shot, the Hydra is a great choice.

Turn Up the Heat? Don’t mind if I do! The Hydra is an amalgam of proven core dependability and brand new, exciting coverstock development. The tried and tested Halogen core (2.55RG, .037Diff) is wrapped in the freshest iteration of Hexion technology, Hexion LFP (5000grit LSP). This coverstock is the strongest to date of any Hexion ball, but by finishing it at 5000 grit and then giving it a higher RG core, a good combination of push with punch comes to play. While the layout I have on this particular ball is fairly ‘neutral’ in terms of overall core manipulation, I can definitively say that this may be the most versatile ball in my bag. At box finish this has been super clean in the heads and mids, storing up a tremendous amount of energy for a backend motion that only quits once it reaches the pit. I have been able to be square with it on fresher house shots (though that is not its preferred environment) along with being able to step left, throw right, and watch it scream back to the headpin. Even when I tug it a bit into the oil it still finds a way to gain traction thereby allowing me a greater room for error rather than just knowing it’s going to wash out because I made it skid in the puddle. When I changed the surface to a fresh 2000, I saw a similar-yet-different beast. The Hydra still made it through the fronts with easy but started to read the mids quite a bit sooner while still allowing plenty of energy to make a pronounced move into the pocket at the backend. If I were building a collegiate-standard five ball arsenal, at box I would have a ‘4-ball’ and at 2000 I would have a solid ‘3-ball,’ or benchmark. While the overall motion of the Hydra impresses me greatly, I am utterly blown away by its versatility. If you need a ball that can attack medium and lighter conditions, this is a choice that can cover it all.

This ball has easily became one of my favorites! This ball is replacing the Tag Cannon, still using the same core but with a different much stronger coverstock the new Hexion LFP reactive. This coverstock is a really strong cover that will allow this lower end ball to hook in the oil not just when the lanes get dry. You can leave the surface right out of box and get plenty of skid through the front with much more angle downlane compared to a Venom Shock Pearl. Also because of this stronger cover you can put some surface on the ball, knock off the shine and watch the ball hook sooner and smoother. This ball can be used from multiple angles and has multiple uses! Go out and get yourself a new MOTIV HYDRA! And #getMOTIVated!!!

The Motiv Hydra is a new release in the "Light Oil" category on the Motiv Ball Guide. This newest edition of the Hexion cover family provides the cleanest and easiest way to get your ball through the front part of the lane when you are at the end of a block, and you need that extra help storing more energy for the back part of the lanes and at the pins.
The first thing I noticed when I threw mine was the versatility that it provided. Even on the fresh, I could get my hand to stay up the back of it at the release and smooth out the down lane reaction, and when I moved in, it came off the spot like nothing I had ever thrown to this point. I am very excited to see how much is actually possible with this ball as I get to throw it more.
Just another must have ball in your bag from Motiv.

The new Motiv Hydra brings back the halogen core previous found in the Tag series. What separates this ball from the Tag series is the new coverstock. The new Hexion LFP Reactive is super strong and gives this ball a ton of angle at the breakpoint. Since the coverstock is strong, it will read the extra oil in the middle part of the lane where other lower end balls will not. This ball has great value at its price point and you won't be disappointed on medium to dry lane conditions.
