When to use

  • Speed Dominant

    Speed dominant bowlers are often in a quandary to find balls that will give the necessary traction, but still hook down lane enough to carry the corners.  Duramax enhanced Leverage coverstocks are wildly popular with speed dominant bowlers trying to solve this riddle.  The Jackal Onyx provides traction similar to a Jackal Ambush, but with down lane motion much more comparable to a Subzero Forge.  The combination is exactly what speed dominant players are so often seeking for their first ball out of the bag. 

  • Balanced

    For balanced bowlers the Jackal Onyx will be the best option for the highest volumes of friction to break down a pattern, to control wet/dry, and to get a read of a lane.  Many balanced bowlers are huge fans of the Subzero Forge and have stated that an asymmetrical ball with the Leverage + Duramax coverstock would be their favorite ball, so this ball seems like an absolute win.

  • Rev Dominant

    For rev dominant bowlers, the Jackal Onyx will be an outstanding option for maximizing control on long, flat, and heavy oil environments; especially on lower friction lane surfaces.  A benefit of using a Duramax enhanced coverstock is that changes in coverstock preparation make for significant adjustments in ball motion.  Some rev dominant bowlers will enjoy the Jackal Onyx with a shinier finish than the 1000 grit LSS finish out of the box, but no matter what finish a bowler chooses, the Duramax additive will help immensely in keeping that surface consistent longer.

    Best Jackal since the Ghost?

    Maximum traction? Maximum power? Maximum hook potential? Yeah. This one has got it all.
    Duramax was destined for the Predator V2 core, and the results are even better than imagined.

    Previous solid Jackals were always very early, and quick to roll out for me, trapping them on heavy and long oil patterns. The Onyx is the first I see that still retains a lot of energy and has plenty of downlane continuation through the pins. Paired with the Duramax's ability to really amplify surface changes. This just might be the most versatile Jackal since the Ghost.
    Also, probably the biggest hook potential in a bowling ball on the market right now.

    Jackal Onyx gave new life!

    After averaging 160 halfway through the current season, thinking my best days had gone by (185 to 200 averages in past) I was pleasantly surprised with my Onyx. Three practice balls then a 203 first game with a 553 series. The ball reaction is going to take some more experience but I couldn't be happier.

    Jackal onxy

    Just drilled up the jackal onxy last night for league fresh out box shoot 279 high game of night and then748 series this ball is must have ball in bag. Unleash the beast for sure but very smooth not over hooking at all balls just great all around.

    Jackal Onyx

    The Jackal Onyx is the newest ball added to the fan favorite Jackal line. It has the Leverage HXC Solid Reactive cover that gives you strength and stability with a strong smooth motion. It’s designed for heavy oil patterns and made for when the lanes are fresh with a ton of volume. The Jackal Onyx has the Predator V2 core. The Jackal Onyx creates a very strong round motion and is great for the crest heavy oil patterns especially when the pattern calls for a strong round piece ball. This ball should fit the top spot of the bag when the cleaner balls aren’t giving enough traction in the oil. Designed for heavy oil conditions, the Jackal Onyx is going to be a piece to add for anyone looking for something when the nothing else is enough and really needs that big ball to do all the work. This ball has all the hype and I believe it’s going to live up to it!

    An excellent piece of equipment.

    I am a senior bowler who has lost some ball speed and some revs, but I am not speed or rev dominant. I have been using the Motiv Jackal Onyx for a little more than two weeks. As a low speed player I was concerned about being able to retain enough energy downlane to have reasonable carry. I generally bowl on a house shot that is "cliffy" outside of 10. Lately it has been playing wider with more hold in the soup in the middle.

    I had some success with the Onyx playing the lanes very wide but by the end of the first game the ball was burning up too early, and the adjustments I made were ineffective. Then I found the key that unlocked the box. Rather than playing left to right I tried keeping the ball in front of me longer attempting to let the Onyx get to the friction as late as possible. Now, I have area on a house shot to hit the pocket, can play in the puddle with the higher rev players, and as long as the Onyx does not read the lane early, can strike a lot. I am averaging about 214, but my last 5 games I have shot 1245.

    As a coloblind person I don't notice "beauty" of a ball but those that I bowl with like the way it looks. The color differential in the ball allows me to easily pick up the rotation. It is the strongest ball I have thrown in a long time and I am very surprised and happy that I am able to throw it on a house shot. It is (for me) clean enough to let me get it down lane, and is continuous enough to drive through the pins as well. My 10 pin leaves have been less than my 7 pin leaves. The ball is forgiving on release (I don't have to be perfect at the bottom).

    I look forward to using this ball on tournament conditions. It will let me play lanes the way I did when I was younger.
