Leverage HXC solid coverstock

The Leverage HXC solid coverstock is an evolved version of the Subzero Forge's Leverage MXC, but with even more grip and hook potential, giving you next-level traction without sacrificing backend power. With a 1000-grit LSS finish, the Jackal Onyx is dialed in to rip through heavy oil.

Predator V2 Asymmetrical

The Predator V2 is a proven winner—MOTIV’s most dominant high-performance core. This core revs up fast and delivers insane flare, giving you the kind of hook that turns heads and breaks records. It’s asymmetric, it’s powerful, and it’s everything you need to crush even the heaviest oil patterns. When to use

  • Speed Dominant

    Speed dominant bowlers are often in a quandary to find balls that will give the necessary traction, but still hook down lane enough to carry the corners.  Duramax enhanced Leverage coverstocks are wildly popular with speed dominant bowlers trying to solve this riddle.  The Jackal Onyx provides traction similar to a Jackal Ambush, but with down lane motion much more comparable to a Subzero Forge.  The combination is exactly what speed dominant players are so often seeking for their first ball out of the bag. 

  • Balanced

    For balanced bowlers the Jackal Onyx will be the best option for the highest volumes of friction to break down a pattern, to control wet/dry, and to get a read of a lane.  Many balanced bowlers are huge fans of the Subzero Forge and have stated that an asymmetrical ball with the Leverage + Duramax coverstock would be their favorite ball, so this ball seems like an absolute win.

  • Rev Dominant

    For rev dominant bowlers, the Jackal Onyx will be an outstanding option for maximizing control on long, flat, and heavy oil environments; especially on lower friction lane surfaces.  A benefit of using a Duramax enhanced coverstock is that changes in coverstock preparation make for significant adjustments in ball motion.  Some rev dominant bowlers will enjoy the Jackal Onyx with a shinier finish than the 1000 grit LSS finish out of the box, but no matter what finish a bowler chooses, the Duramax additive will help immensely in keeping that surface consistent longer.

    First time using a jackal onyx

    Thursday January 9th our mix league started at 5:30 p.m. I got my onyx at 4:45 p.m. First game was 224 clean, second game was 223 clean, and last game was 237 for a 683 series only got 10 minutes of practice I recommend this ball to everyone

    The brand new Jackal Onyx is arguably the most complete Jackal that Motiv has ever released. This ball gives us the overall hook on the newer heavier and longer patterns and gives us the continuity that we have loved for years from the Jackal Ghost. This is the modern day work horsethat gives you all the hook, all the carry and all the performance you need from a big asymmetric ball in today’s game.

    Jackal Onyx is a BEAST!

    I am a right-handed/1-handed above average speed/rev rate Motiv Staff member.

    The Jackal Onyx “got that dog in it!”

    Out of box, the hook potential is incredible and seemed to break in after 1-2 games. The overall hook potential is massive, but does not sacrifice energy or shape through the pins.

    Building on the footprint of the Subzero Forge, the Jackal Onyx digs in the oil just as strong, but with a faster response compared to the Subzero Forge. The Predator V2 core never disappoints and continues the legacy of unmatched performance in the lineup.

    While the Onyx Jackal will perform best on heavier oil volumes, I was surprised by the ability of this ball to regain energy even from steeper angles. For speed dominant or lower rev players, the Jackal Onyx provides a LOT of forgiveness on fresher patterns and allows you to transition into cleaner Jackal Ghost/Crimson Jackals as the pattern breaks down.

In the midlane, the Onyx starts to pick up strong traction but doesn’t quit early. The backend motion is a smooth, continuous arc that provides a reliable read and devastating pin action. For speed-dominant players like myself, it’s crucial to have a ball that creates traction without burning up, and the Jackal Onyx exceeded expectations.

    Compared to the Jackal Ghost, the Onyx provides a slightly earlier and more rounded shape, making it a better option when you need control in high-volume oil. It fits perfectly into the lineup for those looking for a reliable heavy-oil ball with a controllable motion.
