Are you ready for a little FLARE? The FORGE FLARE is the newest addition to the Forge line. This Flare is so much stronger than the other 2 in the line. That is because of the Coercion MXC Solid Reactive coverstock. This coverstock lets the ball hook up earlier in the oil and allows to ball to continue through the pins with crushing force. When looking into what I wanted out of this ball, I already knew this ball was going to be strong. However, I wanted to be able to throw this ball in league to help get everyone in my area excited about this ball. I drilled my 70x5x45 so that I can still get the strong reaction through the pins, but it allows me to control the pattern without the ball trying to overreact. Even with this drilling, the FORGE FLARE was still the strongest in my bag by 5 boards over the Jackal Flash. This ball is a game changer when it comes to high volume patterns since it can give you a little more forgiveness when you miss your mark. When I am bowling on higher volume oil patterns, I am usually in a zone to myself until the pattern starts to break down and the competition is slowly moving into that zone. This is a must have ball in your bag when it comes to competition on oil patterns 40ft and longer.

Where do I start? This has become my absolute favorite ball of all time, hands down. The Forge Flare is the most recent release in the Forge line, MOTIV’s biggest and strongest symmetric ball series. But what makes this ball so crazy special is the brand new Coercion MXC coverstock. The two biggest factors of what makes this cover special is the traction it creates without losing all of its energy through the pins, and how long it takes to lane shine. The coverstock is always the most important part of a ball since it is the only thing connecting the ball to the lane directly. This cover took about two weeks of bowling regularly to actually lane shine. On top of that, I have never had a ball more stable and aggressive in oil. This cover is strong enough I feel like I could make it hook in the oceans. But to top off the amazing parts of this ball, IT NEVER LOSES ENERGY!!! Not only is the Forge Flare the strongest ball I have ever thrown speaking especially on it’s strength in the oil, but for how well it maintains energy through the lane. Generally balls this strong lose energy super early for me and can be close to or completely dead once it gets to the pins, but this one just absolutely never quits. Layout- 50x5x70

With the amount of success I’ve had with the Forge and Forge Fire, I instantly became excited upon details of the Forge Flare. Fittingly, I compared all three together. The immediate reaction I got after the few couple shots was “OMG this ball hooks!!” The downlane motion was more impressing to me as the amount of continuation for something this strong is simply unbelievable. Typically, balls that are this strong in cover have a tendency to go more forward on the backend - I can’t think of another way to say that the Forge Flare defies this. It’s fairly common for me to start with the original Forge on fresher patterns. While having the option to transition to the Forge Fire as the lanes transition, I now have the option to start deeper in the puddle or go to the Forge Flare as it is able to cover more boards without sacrificing any power downlane.
The Forge Flare in simplest terms is the strongest symmetric ball ever produced by MOTIV Bowling, and I like it a lot. There is no style that this ball will not fit. From the rev dominant to the speed dominant, and all in between, the Forge Flare should be in everyone’s arsenal. The ability of how well it handles the heavier volumes is impressive, especially when given the option to stand further into the puddle, and how it responds to the friction. The Forge Line, with no pun intended, just got that much stronger.

Pure hook in a box. I could stop my review there and it would still be ample enough to describe the sheer power that the Forge Flare offers, but why not go further? Wrapping the new Coercion MX cover (2000 LSS) around the devastating Detonator core (2.47RG, .055Diff) has created an arsenal piece that can dig through the heaviest of patterns while delivering impressive pocket performance.
I drilled my Flare with the expectation of having it dig early but still be continuous through the pins. It took me a while to actually test that ability because of how many shots I had to keep moving left just to get lined up! I threw my first shot with it on the same line that my Jackal Flash hit flush and I hit the four-pin head on (right hander). As I said, pure hook in a box. By the time I got lined up my Forge Flare was about 18-10 left of my Jackal Flash. After this, since the houses I bowl in do not have heavy volume sets, I took the ball down to 500 grit and then worked it back up to 2000. This created a smoother finish than how the ball comes out of the box and allowed me to square up my angles on our fresh patterns. Even after doing this the characteristics of the ball did not change, just how far down the lane it would go before turning left. Early hook and early roll is the name of the game. This cover and core combination create a strong force for early motion, chewing up the midlane to find (or just create) the friction. Once it gets its teeth sank into the lane, an extremely smooth motion towards the pocket happens that contains enough power to continue through the rack with energy to spare. The comment most said to me by those watching this ball is how they cannot believe a ball that hook so early, and so much, still plows through the pins without quit. The best part of this ball is that it is not reliant upon backend friction to hook. Whether the lanes are fresh, or you have urethane pushing oil down, the Forge Flare will hook before the end of the pattern so that you can control your transitions much better than those not throwing this beast. This is a true ‘one’ ball for anyone’s arsenal.
