One of the longest running MOTIV® product lines, the Tanks are the premiere bowling balls for control on the harshest conditions. The latest addition to this legendary line is the Purple Tank™.

The Tank™ series changed forever with the introduction of Microcell Polymer technology. While Microcell Polymer (MCP) is now recognized as the solution for the ball motion gap between reactive resin and urethane, MCP does not replace urethane completely. With that in mind, MOTIV® has been in pursuit of a truly special urethane cover stock that provides adequate traction on modern lane surfaces conditioned with the high volume, high viscosity oil patterns competitive bowlers see so regularly.

Now, MOTIV® is unveiling the brand new Purple Solid Urethane cover stock. It builds on the technology of Microcell Polymer, but it eliminates the oil absorption that causes MCP covers to shape down lane. This new cover allows the Purple Tank™ to display incredible control along with the aggressive traction seen from previous MCP balls like the Tank™ Blitz. It is ready to dominate when true urethane is needed in battle.

To boost the control factor, the Flux™ core is employed on the Purple Tank™ to lower the track flare potential. Previously used in the Desert Tank™, the Flux™ core is the proven solution for wet/dry conditions when the bowler needs to use shallow angles.

When to Use

Urethane bowling balls are now a staple for use on difficult oil patterns, short oil sport conditions, and for rev dominant bowlers seeking control when resin is just too much. The Purple Tank™ is prepared for battle on all these conditions because it displays outstanding traction in the mid-lane with the control down-lane that only urethane can provide.

    Purple Tank Review

    Layout - 65 x 4 1/8 x 30
Test Pattern - 2021 PBA Bear
The Purple Tank. Having been a fan of the entire Microcell Polymer line, especially the Tank Blitz, I knew this would be a great addition to the lineup. From the looks of the 1000 Grit finish, my prediction was fairly simple in knowing how early the Purple Tank would read into the oil pattern. What I was more curious about was what kind of downlane shape will it create, and how far will it let me migrate my feet to the left. I was fairly surprised at how continuous it was once it came off of the end of the pattern. While the Tank Blitz is the overall stronger of the two, this combination is an absolute force that is hard to stop.
Common in reactive equipment, and with how early the urethane reads up front, the signature continuation showed itself as it does not go more “forward” as most would anticipate. Understanding the use of how and when to use urethane in today’s game is highly important. For my style and preference of laneplay on the fresh patterns, the Tank Blitz was been my benchmark for quite a while. Although the Purple Tank doesn’t create a bigger motion downlane, its ability to read the front part of the lane similarly has become a great option for when the Tank Blitz is just a bit too much. This combination has become a staple in my arsenal and travels with me everywhere.

    Strengths
Purple Tank uses its energy early and provides a smoother back end read to that of Blitz, Desert, and Covert.

Purple Solid Urethane is predictable at the breakpoint, and will provide you with a smoother ball motion downlane when compared to Frixion+ Microcell Polymer.

If you are needing a smoother option outside of Microcell Polymer Pearl I encourage you to look at Purple Solid Urethane, it will afford you with excellent control at the breakpoint.

    Weaknesses
I’ve had minimal success using Purple Tank on heavier patterns, Purple Solid Urethane Coverstock doesn’t carve a lane as Mircocell Polymer Frixtion or MXC Coercion would which makes persfect sense as it isn’t supposed to.

    Overall Summary

The weapon of mass destruction known as Purple Tank comes at a surface of 1000 sanded finish, at its core is the Flux core that was also used in Desert Tank and Thrill. As early as Purple Tank starts its ball motion the Flux core makes it rather useful to a variety of styles, the smooth motion it provides downlane will blend out the breakpoint should the breakpoint become difficult for you to control.

Typically urethane is a weapon that I don’t use unless an opportunity presents itself, and that opportunity is rare. Save for heavier patterns I didn’t expect this type of versatility out of Purple Tank or how muscular its ball motion was, Purple Solid Urethane gave me no problems reading upfront and eliminated breakpoint volatility. Although Purple Tank did corner for me I was very comfortable playing right for the majority of the night, even when I used it in later blocks of tournaments my foot wasn’t in the gutter. In the event Microcell Polymer Pearl became too much Purple Solid Urethane would get me home, out of all the urethane weapons Motiv has created Purple Tank is the best one thus far in my hands.

If you have Desert Tank in your bag and feel you need a smaller option, if you need to control breakpoint volatility, if you are skeptical about urethane weaponry and you’re open to trying it for yourself then I encourage you to Tank a look at Purple Tank.
Your game will thank you for it

Every Tournament Bowler Needs This Ball

With the game constantly evolving, a good urethane ball and knowing how to use it has become an essential ball in everyone's bags. I'm a huge fan of urethane and use it when I can and if you don't have a Purple Tank in your bag, you're absolutely missing out.

I've used my Purple Tank a lot on fresher patterns when there's a ton of oil up front and the back ends are flying. The Purple Tank reads a lot sooner than the reactive balls, taming the back end of the pattern down, but still packs plenty of punch for the pins. Everyone needs one of these!

    Purple Tank

I haven’t always had the best luck with urethane pieces because I am a lower rev rate player but the tank line has yet to disappoint . The purple tank allows me to stay straighter with my angles on shorter patterns but does have the continuation I need if I have to open up a little . I found my issue on shorter patterns is once I have to transition a little left I hit a lot of over under reaction. The purple tank has now filled that void in my bag. This ball allows me to make that transition and have the trust that it will get around .

    Love my Tank

As a left hander I have never really found use for urethane however when I was headed into a tournament with difficult conditions it was recommended that I buy one. Being a Motiv guy I had to go with the Purple Tank and I couldn’t have made a better decision. This is the smoothest and most predictable ball I have ever thrown. It rolls the same over and over and it’s read down the lane never changes. I would definitely recommend this ball to anyone looking for a good urethane.
